eyyed Hossein Nasr was Professor of
History of Science and Philosophy, Tehran University, Iran from 1958 to
1979. He also served for several
years as President of Aryamehr
University in Iran. 1962 and 1965 he was Visiting Professor at Harvard
University and between1964-65 he was the first Aga Khan Professor of Islamic
Studies at the American University of Beirut. He was also Founder and first
President of the Iranian Academy of Philosophy.
In 1979, Dr. Nasr migrated to the
United States where he became the first distinguished Professor of Islamic
Studies at the University of Utah. From 1979 to 1984, he was Professor of
Islamic Studies at Tempa University and, since 1984 he has been the University
Professor of Islamic Studies at the George Washington University, Washington,
D.C.
Professor Nasr is the author of more
than twenty-eight books and over 200 articles. His works concern not only
various aspects of Islamic studies but also comparative philosophy and religion,
philosophy of art and the philosophical and religious dimensions of the
environmental crisis. He has delivered lectures throughout the United
States, Western Europe, most of the Muslim world, India, Australia and Japan.
